Working With Men

I am a man in midlife who has experienced much so I have a particular interest and  expertise in working with men.

“Mid Life” for me means from 40 to 55 when the pressures on men are arguably the toughest and often unheard.

As men are lives are in transition and many issues emerge that include:

Relationships

Sex

Work and potential

Parents and children

Loss

Health anxiety

Money

Sexuality

And - Is this it?

As men we are not great at seeking help and support. We struggle to go to the GP to manage our physical health, so the prospect of seeking help in the face of difficult events and experiences is daunting and often there is a sense of stigma and a feeling "that as a man I should be able to sort it out myself"

This is a view that I held for a long time so I understand the reluctance. I also understand how you may percieve counselling and counsellors. All I can say, is that counselling gave me the opportunity to bring issues to the fore and regain perspective and direction.
